| F.A.Q. |
GENERAL QUESTIONS |
|
1 |
Will the color of the products yellow or fade? No, Plastival's white PVC railing & fencing systems use specially treated resin (Tio2 = titanium dioxide) to ensure permanent color. |
2 |
What product can I use to clean my railing/fence? For regular cleaning, just use a little soap and water with a soft cloth. |
3 |
What is the best method to use when installing a post wrap? Start at one end and work your way to the other while lightly tapping with a rubber mallet to snap the pieces together. |
4 |
Do you offer estimates, price quotes and installations? We do not offer any of these services, but we can refer you to a contractor that works in your region. |
5 |
Where can Plastival products be purchased? Please refer to our "points of purchase" section of our website: www.plastival.com |
6 |
Can parts be purchased separately? Yes, please refer to our "replacement parts" section on our website: www.plastival.com |
7 |
Can the products be painted? The products can be painted with the special Krylon PVC spray paint, but the warranty will no longer be valid. |
8 |
Can a fence section be installed on a deck? This is not recommended because customization of parts as well as additional parts will be necessary. |
9 |
How far apart should the posts be installed? When measuring for post installation, the measurement given is from the center of one post to the center of the next, NOT the distance between the posts. Measure the exact length of the section before installing the posts. |
ACQ LUMBER |
|
1 |
What is ACQ lumber? ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) lumber is pressure-treated,
created to replace CCA lumber because it is the most cost-effective
alternative. |
2 |
What type of fasteners should be used with ACQ lumber? The chemicals used in ACQ will corrode ordinary galvanized fasteners; therefore special consideration must be taken when working with ACQ lumber. Hot dipped or stainless steel fasteners MUST be used with ACQ lumber. |
3 |
Should something be used between my ACQ treated deck and the post brackets? Spacer materials or other physical barriers are recommended to prevent
direct contact of ACQ pressure-treated wood and metal products. |
GATES |
|||||
1 |
Does the hardware come with the gate? No, the hardware is not included with the gate so that
you may purchase the type of hardware that you prefer for your installation.
|
||||
2 |
What type of hardware should be used to install a gate? It is best to use galvanized steel or stainless steel hardware. You may choose the type of hardware that you prefer, but it is preferable to use "T" hinges because they support the weight of the gate better than with a normal hinge.

CLASSIC & COLONIAL RAILINGS |
|||||||
1 |
What is the difference between the Standard Classic & Colonial models compared to the Premium Classic & Premium Colonial? They are different models. Please refer to the specifications
of each model on our website under Standard Classic
& Colonial and Premium
Classic & Premium
Colonial. |
||||||
2 |
What is a locking plate and how do I install it? It is a rectangular piece of plastic with rounded corners. It must be screwed into the top rail from the inside of the post. This will provide a stronger connection to the post and will prevent the rail from sliding out.
|
||||||
3 |
What should be done with the loose metal plate on the universal
28" post bracket? Line up the holes on the plate with the holes from the bottom of the bracket and screw through both. This makes the post bracket much stronger to support the railing.
|
||||||
4 |
Where must the stair posts be installed? They must be used only at the bottom of a stair section. |
||||||
5 |
What type of post should be used between two consecutive stair sections? You must use a stair post and pierce the holes on the other side to connect it to the second section.
|
||||||
6 |
Do the holes on the stair posts need to be enlarged? They may need to be enlarged depending on the angle of your stairs (the steeper the angle, the larger the holes need to be). Widen the top hole towards the bottom and the bottom hole towards the top. |
||||||
7 |
How do I install regular sections at an angle? You may have to enlarge the holes in the post (line or corner post)
in width to be able to insert the rails.
|
||||||
8 |
When the railing package includes one steel insert, should it go into the top rail or the bottom rail? The metal insert goes into the bottom rail. It is also important to make sure that the opening of the steel insert faces downwards. |
||||||
9 |
How do I attach a railing to a pre-existing post, pre-existing column or directly to a wall? With the wall and column brackets (sold separately)
|
||||||
PREMIUM RAILINGS |
||
1 |
How must the stair/angle brackets be cut in order to create a proper angle for an installation? The stair/angle brackets are made to allow customization
of the angle required for a specific installation. They can be used
to create angles on a deck surface or for stair section installations.
These brackets may be installed on posts, columns and wall surfaces.
|
|
2 |
In what angle do the posts/columns have to be installed on a deck that has 45° angles? One of the posts/columns flat sides should be facing the corner of the deck.
|
|
FENCES |
|
1 |
How far down must we dig the holes for fence post installation? The general dimension required is about 8" in diameter
depending on the size of the post that will be installed and 36"
to 48" in depth, depending on the area and the frost line of
your location. |
2 |
How far down must the post go into the hole for proper installation? It will depend on the height and the model of the fence you wish
to install. Please call our help line for assistance: 1-800-626-6105. |
COLUMN |
|
1 |
What weight can the columns support? The columns must be spaced at a maximum of 72" center to center from each other. When properly installed with the mounting plates and properly spaced, they can support up to 500 pounds, each column being able to maintain a 3-foot span to each side. |
2 |
How many column mounting plates do I need and how do I install them? Two mounting plates are needed per column, one for the top and one for the bottom. Insert the mounting plates into the column, position the column, and screw both mounting plates into place. |
